Alexander Rimanelli – Fire & EMS

When did you become a volunteer & when did you decide to join Arcola (if different)?

I became a volunteer in August of 2019. That is also when I decided to join Arcola.

Why did you become a volunteer & Why did you join  Arcola?

I became a volunteer to kickstart a dream I had since high school. Before I knew about Arcola, I was originally going to join a different station until I furthered my research.

What positions in the department have you held?   What have you learned from them?

I’m currently a red shirt on both the fire side and EMS side. I’ve learned that you’re only as strong as your weakest link. In other words, you need to train hard not only to better yourself but to better the rest of the crew.

 What was/is your “day job”?

I’m currently a chef at a 5 star resort and spa.

What community involvement do you have outside the department?

Outside of the department, I’ve been involved with litter pickup to help out our ecosystem.

How do you feel your service has enriched your life/your family’s life? My service has shown me how many people actually care about first responders. And through all their support I have bettered myself to become more of a caring person than I was before and truly thank the people who have given the ultimate sacrifice.

What would you say to someone today who is interested in joining the fire and rescue service? Would you advise them to join Arcola and Why?

I would definitely tell them to give it a shot. Being apart of the fire and rescue service is like being apart of another family. You get taught lessons that you never knew about. I would highly advise Arcola because everyone there is a family. We all care about each other and would do anything for each other. The station itself is very nice and there’s no other place I’d rather call my second home.
